My Grandmother! My Angel
Figurine
Just like our genes, a lot of our defining characteristics are hereditary. I am Paul, a musician by profession and a collector of angel figurines by passion. I found my love for figurines through my grandmother who has recently joined the club of octogenarians. Pardon her age though she is as young as a sixteen year old.
Winter Of 2012
Now, throwback to the winter of 2012, we were at Grandma’s for our annual ritual of Christmas dinner. Personally, I would never miss it for she bakes the world’s best plum cakes. I know I over-exaggerate at times but wish I could explain in words how delighted I am to be able to share this story with you. So if I get a little overboard with my descriptions then my over excitement is to be blamed.
Let’s go back to the dinner table where a heated conversation was on regarding the reinstatement of Obama. Even though I am a singer-songwriter, politics just does not fit my plate. So I was looking out for an excuse which I found in setting up the BBQ grill oven for some juicy and tender barbeque chicken, courtesy of my beloved cousin, Andrew. Now we are all set for the evening with chicken on the grill and a heated discussion on the table. Right then my eyes fall on this miniature object that when I
looked at it I had the feeling that I have seen it somewhere before- déjà vu they call it. It was on Grandma’s shelf so upon enquiring her I found out that it was a gift from my Grandfather to mark their thirtieth marriage anniversary. The angelic figurine though old was so pristine and carefully preserved under Grandma’s authority. ‘It reminds me of him, our trip across the globe. This little model helps me retrieve all those exhilarating moments within the fraction of a second. It feels like just yesterday I walked with him to Taj Mahal or the Chichen Itza.’ My grandfather served in the Tourism Industry so they got to see a fair share of the world together. I am living some of that life too, thanks to my music. But that little conversation with granny got me so intrigued and involved with figurines that I have collected over a hundred of them in less than a decade and I just don’t seem to get enough of it. Everywhere I go to, I make sure that I bring back one of them as a souvenir. What better way than this to recognize such an eventful life and all its joyous minutes. But my purpose of collecting them was for my grandma. The grin on her face every time I got her a figurine was worth all the pain and effort. In fact, I am going to immortalize
her memories with this 3D figurine of her smile, wish she was around to see this.
Collectible Angel Figurines
Custom Made Angel Figurines
I got this idea from a friend who got a custom made angel figurine for his fiancée from an online store. I loved its detailed features and delicate cuts. Also, the delivery took only a few weeks wait, so I decided then and there that I am going to get one for my Grandma.
She left us 3 years ago but we are celebrating her eightieth which is in two months from now. She lives in our memories forever and this figurine that I am going to get is just a small gesture to celebrate the life of a lady who chose other’s happiness over hers and would do everything she could in her powers to bring smiles in people’s lives. However, nothing seems to beat the charm of that angel figurine, which is under my custody, grandma gave it to me that Christmas and it will forever behold the fondest memories of my angel, my beloved Grandmother. It is wonderful how a tiny figure helps in evoking such divine emotions right?
